Paternity Suit versus Justin Bieber Dropped!
The paternity suit filed against Canadian teen pop star Justin Bieber has been dropped by his accuser, but the paternity test, reports say, is still on.
The case filed by 20-year-old Mariah Yeater, who claimed that Bieber is the father of her 3-month-old son, has been withdrawn. In addition, her two lawyers have already quit; a third, Jeffrey Leving, spoke to MTV News and confirmed that the case has been dropped.
Leving shared, however, that despite the fact that the case against Bieber has been withdrawn, negotiations are still ongoing between the Bieber and Yeater camps regarding the conduct of a DNA test, to confirm or refute the accusation that Bieber is the father of the child.
Leving gave the following statement to MTV News: “We are still pursuing a DNA test and … if it’s positive, our desire for child support is still active… We could refile the paternity case tomorrow if we wanted, but we are attempting to settle the case out of court.”
As of Wednesday, the pop star’s spokesperson, Matthew Hiltzik, gave a statement upholding Bieber’s innocence, when asked to comment about the withdrawal of the lawsuit. The statement indicated in part: “As we’ve said from the beginning, it’s sad that someone would fabricate such a malicious, defamatory, and demonstrably false claim… We’ll continue to consider all of our options to protect Justin.”
When asked if the withdrawal of the case weakened Yeater’s claim, Leving responded: “The case is stronger now because we can negotiate outside of court… I believe her. I believe she had sexual intercourse with him and I do believe he is the father of the child.”
