Whitney Houston Dies at 48

Whitney Houston is dead. She was 48.

Her self-titled debut album, released in 1985, sold 25 million copies worldwide. In her career, she released a total of 7 albums and 3 film soundtracks. She sold over 200 million albums and singles worldwide. Her success went beyond music and she invaded the movies and starred in blockbuster hits like “The Bodyguard” and “Waiting to Exhale.”

She won 6 Grammys, 30 Billboard Awards, 22 American Music Awards and 2 Emmy Awards. At her peak, the queen of pop music seemed unstoppable, until her career was ravaged by drug abuse and turbulent marriage to singer Bobby Brown.

She confessed to abusing cocaine, marijuana and pills. Her drug use affected not only her health and her behavior, but also her once pristine voice that has become raspy and hoarse. She was then unable to reach the high notes she once hit with perfect poise.

Her publicist, Kristin Foster, broke the news of Houston’s death, but no cause of death has yet been revealed.
