Actor Colin Farrell Talks About How He’s Overcome Drug Abuse
Hollywood actor Colin Farrell rose to stardom after he starred opposite Tom Cruise in the 2002 hit Minority Report, but his star was quickly overshadowed by his drug and alcohol addiction. Now that he makes his comeback via the Total Recall remake, he confesses how fatherhood made him choose to abandon his unhealthy lifestyle.
In an Examiner feature, Farrell credits his sons, James (9) and Henry (2), for inspiring him to “live as long as possible.”
“What my first son James did was allow me to care for something in this world when I couldn’t care for myself,” Farrell tells the September 2012 issue of Men’s Health UK. “James saved my life.”
In 2005, Farrell voluntarily checked into drug rehab for his addictions to recreational drugs and painkillers.
The actor now admits to living a clean lifestyle, saying “I eat really well, drink loads of green tea, and take a [loads] of vitamins. I want to live for as long as possible now. I have two boys that I want to see grow up.”
Aside from adopting a healthy eating habit, Farrell has also started working out regularly. To prepare for his role in the sci-fi thriller “Total Recall,” he embarked on a rigorous training program that included daily two-mile runs and an hour of weight-lifting six days a week.
