Michael Jackson Passes Away

Michael Jackson, who served as an inspiration to many performers and emerged as probably the greatest singing sensation during his glory years in the 1980s, has passed away after collapsing in his home in Los Angeles.

While it may be a bit too soon for the pop icon, it seems significant that someone who has had such a golden career in his day lived through the age of 50 – touted as the “golden year”.

Michael JacksonParamedics reportedly responded to a 911 call at the star’s home, where they found him not breathing. He was given CPR and rushed to the UCLA Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 2:26 Pacific, 5:26 Eastern time.

Michael Jackson is perhaps one of the most unforgettable performers from the 1980s, and is being ranked along with the likes of Elvis Presley and the Beatles, all icons and movers in their own time. His creativity and talent probably influenced a lot of 80s music; no one can think of the 80s and not think of Michael Jackson, the moonwalk, and “Thriller”.

Even after a rather long hiatus from the industry, his music is still a favorite by many, and he maintains quite a legion of admirers to this day. He was scheduled to perform in a series of sold-out concerts in London starting next month through early spring next year.

Fans gathered outside the UCLA Medical Center as well as his star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame after news of his passing was made public. The cause of death mentioned was cardiac arrest. An autopsy will be performed tomorrow, June 26.
