Steroid Abuse and Steroid Testing in High Schools October 11
The abuse of steroids is becoming a big problem in sports. The sports world is always rife with controversy about some sports superstar admitting to the use of steroids. The sad thing about it is that athletes in high school sports are now turning to steroids to enhance their performance as well.
These student athletes are either unaware of the dangerous side effects of steroid abuse or are willing to ignore them altogether for the sake of getting ahead. Still, it cannot be denied that abusing steroids can lead to some serious health problems, including liver cancer, shrinking of the testicles, high blood pressure, growth stunting, breast development in men, and irregular menstruation in women.
High school athletes can get away with steroid abuse sometimes because of a lack of a testing program in high schools in the country. These schools decry the lack of funding for such a program and students are also quick to call on their human rights to refuse testing. Still, many states have already passed laws regarding steroid abuse in high schools that can help address the problem.
