Signs and Symptoms of Prescription Drug Abuse by Teenagers

Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem among teenagers today. That is because prescription drugs are easier to obtain than illegal substances like marijuana or cocaine. How do you know if your teenager is abusing prescription drugs? There are a number of tell-tale signs that you can look for in your teenager such as lethargy, sudden weight changes, shaky hands and redness of the eyes.

There are also behavioral changes that you should look for, such as secretiveness and hostility, as well as a loss of interest in his or her appearance. Poor grades and missing school are clues as well. It should also alert you that your teenager may be abusing prescription drugs if he or she keeps asking you for money but without saying anything, or if you have valuables missing from the house. You should also check if there are missing pills from your medicine cabinets, or if there are unfamiliar pills.
