Fabio Cannavaro Faces Dope Testing After Taking Cortisone October 18

Cannavaro, a major player for the Italian football team Juventus and World Cup winner has failed drug testing conducted earlier this year. The incident is said to stem from treatment he received for a wasp sting in late August, he says the drug they used contained cortisone, the drug that he tested positive for. The player submitted a request that he be made exempt from testing due to the drug he took but an important from was missing from the forms and he was asked to submit a sample before a decision was reached on the matter.
Cannavaro will be suspended from the Ireland match but is expected to return afterwards. He’s scheduled to have an interview with a representative of the Italian Olympic Committee’s anti-doping section, Etorre Torri on Friday morning in Turin. No official action has been announced as yet but Juventus has made it clear that they acted within the rules of anti-doping and will follow through with whatever action CONI says they want to take.
The treatment was given in order to prevent the player from having negative reaction to the sting, which was said to have the potential of being fatal.
