Easy Ways to Manage Cholesterol Levels October 22
This particular topic hits rather close to home for some people, especially those who have recently joined the ranks of those diagnosed with hypercholesterolemia. Some may have begun popping a pill to try and keep their cholesterol levels in check.
Popping a pill, though, will never be enough. Trying to correct hypercholesterolemia entails a dedication towards changing one’s lifestyle — what one does and what one eats included. And all these changes will definitely be worth it, since hypercholesterolemia is a condition that serves as a gateway towards other more serious diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. Luckily, what needs to be done would not be all that hard.
First off, we have to reiterate something that has been mentioned quite a number of times on various posts — moderation. We seem to have a thing for super-sized portions; I traveled to Southeast Asia recently, and lo and behold, a trip to McDonald’s showed me how humongous American servings can get. A regular meal for us here is equivalent to their large. So how much is just right? You can use your hand as a gauge. A serving of meat should be just enough to fit into the palm of your hand in order to be just right.
And if you eat up, then you might as well choose to eat healthy. Load up on the fruits or vegetables – between five to nine servings a day is about right.
In choosing your meals, it may be well worth it to “take to the sea” – basically a fancy way of saying try to eat fish, making it part of your meals twice a week. Fish contains Omega-3 fatty acids to help lower triglyceride levels – just don’t drop those fillets in the deep fat fryer though!
We will have more servings of ways to lower your cholesterol levels in coming posts, so do check back in with us.
