Olympic-style Drug Tests for Pacquiao vs Mayweather Fight December 13
The latest development in the world of boxing is about a fight between two superstars in the sport – Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Philippine boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao is currently the man of the hour in the field of boxing, having only recently TKO’d another renowned boxer out of his title – Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.
There are a lot of things going on regarding the undoubtedly anticipated fight, the proposed date of which is being set for March 13 of next year. Amid a tug-of-war regarding the venue is a rather hot topic: hints of use of performance-enhancing drugs by Pacquiao from the Mayweather camp. Mayweather’s father, Mayweather Sr., spoke of his suspicions in an interview that has made the YouTube circuit from a couple of months or so ago – although he also took those allegations back.
The demand for a random, Olympic-style drug testing prior to their proposed match next year was made by representatives of Floyd Mayweather Jr. This should certainly be interesting. Pacquiao, with his diminutive stature and humble beginnings, has become a hero of sorts in his home country, and has served as inspiration to a lot of people. He is not devoid of imperfections, but as far as boxing goes – he has done fairly well for himself. But the elder Mayweather simply seems to smell something fishy going on with Pacquiao’s chameleon-like ability to move through seven weight classes.
Pacquiao has never failed a drug test in the past, but the Mayweather camp thinks that is only because the testing isn’t as stringent as it should be.

this idiot need to shut his mouth, paquiao need to sue his ass for trying to ruin his good reputation.

i believe this is good for boxing as long as they will comply the srtingent guidlines of NADA[national drug of abuse]in handling of specimen and the change of custody of the specimen, also the use of the sophisticated unmatched sensitivity of gs/ms instrument[gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer. this stuff being used for confirmation of drugs substances in medico-legal cases and space exploration. now will be used for the p4p king.

I was wondering all the time about Pacquiao being able to walk through 7 weightclasses without taking its toll on his body.
also his endless energy and stamina in the ring speaks for itself. But I dont see Pacquiao taking illegal substances.
Edgar Dec 13
The elder Mayweather smells something, he smells jealousy. Does it mean if Mayweather wants to be and Olympic-style drug testing, for a long, long, long time the Nevada State Athletic Commission drug testing is failure? Why Mayweather accuses the fighter not the Commission?
Edgar Dec 13
In short, another excuses and scared.
bopeep Dec 13
mayweather is an ass! why cant he just accept that not all boxers are like him! he will make issues like this so he can justify if his son gets knocked out, id like to see him try!!!!
Peace On Earth Dec 13
If Fraud Gayweather Sr is questioning the credibility of the NSAC, then he is also basically doubting the test done to all the athletes, past and present: Ali, Leonard, and his own son, Fraud, Jr., because they were tested by this same athletic commission.

Yes. I can see how both Mayweathers would be suspicious of Pacquiao. I mean, those roids have really beefed him up. He’s huge! Come on. Are they really so scared of a smaller guy that they have to start up some s****t like this to try to distract and discredit him? You’re supposed to be a great fighter, PBF. Shut up and fight then.
Then again, the Mayweathers do like to run their mouths. Guess by now we shouldn’t be surprised that all sorts of crazy s***t spills out of there. Can’t wait til Manny shuts them up like he did Mayweather Sr. During the Hatton fight.
aloha Dec 13
It’s too obvious the Mayweather’s camp is pretty scared or paranoid about Pacquiao taking a true welterweight punches & a he’s strength to KO a true welterweigth. They make so many excuses to avoid the fight especially the big mouth Mayweather Sr.
True Champ Dec 13
This steroid drama is really getting way too much. I am sure that no matter what test they would do to Manny and comes our negative, all the naysayers will always have some negatives to say about him and that the test wasn’t enough or the test for that kind of drug he has been taking hasn’t been developed.
I think that you the writers know that whatever accusations that the Mayweathers and the a couple of other boxers out there is not really true but you just keep on writing what they say.
If you people are true writers of the sport, why don’t you invetigate, find out if that is really true or not then write about it.
Sifufor Dec 13
Mayweather seems to be setting the stage for a pullout from the fight with Pacquiao: “I am convinced Pacquiao is taking steroids, no way I will let li’l Floyd step in the ring with a drug taker. I won’t stop until they find what drug he is taking!”

I suggest the Nevada State Athletic Commission file a case in court against the Mayweather camp for INSINUATING and QUESTIONING its capability and integrity (i.e. that its tests are unreliable, etc). Vegas is the mecca of the top boxing fights . . and we cannot have a situation that its very essence and reputation is called in question without reliable facts to back it up, that is slander! The Mayweathers’ can provide their evidence in court . . that will be the right avenue. If they don’t have anything, better shut their mouth! as they have earned millions in Vegas, only to “bite the hand that also feeds them”, what ingratitude given how many big fights they have.
The other thing – who in their reasonable mind will take Mayweather Snr at face value? Mr top fighter, mr top trainer and now poetic genius (Snr claims) – “I’m not the best trainer of this time, that time, or part-time, but the best of all time”. We know what happened, he lost big with – Hatton! and he constantly (in the past few fights) went against Pac Monster and his so-called expert predictions “got blasted away”. We know the run-ins that Mayweathers have with the law . . so with all the negative and checkered history, you can’t place your faith in that quicksand.
Come March 13th – Mayweather Jnr better focus on his fight with Pacquiao lest the immaculate “0″ he has protected so long . . will prove to be an “illusion”.

Quick analysis of the coming fight, which should be the focus of media not all the unsubstantiated shenanigans (from my angle):
Looking forward to the fight: the best offensive boxer (Pacquiao) vs the best defensive pugilist (Mayweather).
Two years ago, i would favor Mayweather with a UD victory . . however, now, with momentum on Pac’s side (KO or TKOs in his last 4 fights against bigger opponents), i now look forward to him winning either by split decision or by KO.
Keys will be: (1)Power shots from awkward angles (not the straight line shots that defensive specialists pick on) . . both right and left hand i.e. Mayweather has never been dazed with his excellent defense, however, it only takes a couple of good power shots (Pac will get his moments) and we may finally know the extent of Floyd’s brilliance or his downfall; (2) Pac Monster has already been in wars that will serve him well when the going gets tough e.g. future hall of famers Barrera, Marquez, Morales, Cotto (including common opponents Hatton and Oscar . . both of which were blasted by Pac! Interestingly, Hatton gave a couple of difficult rounds against Mayweather and past-prime Oscar almost having a win. Granted that Mayweather easily beat Marquez – the betting odds were correct “4:1 favorite” from the slow moving/bulk up Mexican fighter who was unsuccessful moving up two weight classes); (3) Mayweather camp potentially under-estimate the Pac-man (e.g. one dimensional fighter, no skills, has been beaten/ko’d, can be cut, pick your potential excuses, etc) – they will get a suprise. The hubris of “0″ defeat may prove an illusion. Just like we see in basketball, football, some teams go “0 losses” during elimination and then meeting up with a team with a few defeats early on but won the last 4 games. “Boom” – the team with immaculate record during elimination got beat on the play-offs or finals against a hungry/focused/determined foe with momentum on his side.
Its good to have strong views from either side. That will ensure this fight will be a tremendous commercial success.
Will Mayweather’s defensive wizardry be too much for the Pac Man? Will Floyd be able to glide/move, use effectively his height/reach advantage and hit his accurate pot shots all night? or Will Pac Monster and his current momentum (with the eye for history) be the blitzkreig that smashes the aura of Floyd’s invincibility? and will Pac with his power shots in awkward angles together with right timing get to sneak past Money may’s defense and create a KO? That will be answered, hopefully (i.e. since this fight has not yet been finalized) March 13th! Lets get this on . .

Roach has welcomed . . and Manny Pacquiao has welcomed these tests as well quickly, which shows that they have nothing to hide.
If i may add, they should expand the tests to the key players of the boxer’s camp e.g. the head trainer, conditioning coach, etc. Lets see how clean these “pretentious Mayweather team” really are. I suggest they focus on the fight at hand, they believe that Pacquiao is one dimensional fighter, no skills, etc . . well, they sound less and less confident with all the baseless allegations.
hapa Dec 13
I think they are running away from Pacquiao big time. Just watch how they negotiate. If they agree on an issue, they will have still another demand. They are running out of demands, so they come up with the drug accusation. They will never be satisfied because they’ll never find out what drug he is taking.
Frankie Dimebag Dec 13
Desperate mayweather sr…
herbe Dec 13
The Mayweathers are delusional and they are scared of the Pacmans power – all natural baby!!!
James Dec 13
All boxers should be put through the most extensive drug testing available today. Not just Pacquiao and Mayweather, but everyone!
Blood testing, hair folicle, or any new technology available should be used.
BisDak Dec 13
How about including the TRAINERS/sidekicks in the TEST?
I bet $500 that FLOYD SR. will not pass.
Michael Phelps even smoke dope.
Johnny Fisherman Dec 13
Tommy Hearns fought everywhere from Welterweight to Cruiserweight. You don’t need steroids to do that.
Myk1two Dec 14
Pacquiao tests positive for illegal use of pinakbet!
Joel Dec 14
just look who’s making all these accusations.the mayweathers, smallie..i mean paulie…and citron. what do they have in common? golden boy productions, who so happens to be a rival of Arum Promotion. if they want to do olympic style testing on Manny..well they should do the same for mayweather.
Joel Dec 14
this to me is hommage to Manny Pacquiao. Anyone who accuses anyone about using PED’s means they acknowledge the mans superior strength and power.
Rocky Balboa Dec 16
Floyd Sr doesn’t know the difference between steroids and supplements neither he can comprehend the disparity between the artificial and natural.
John Dec 17
this man is a mumbling class clown. he’s still embarrassed by the pacquiao-hatton fight. sometimes i wonder how people like this make it big in life. i hope and think his son will get knocked out.
billy Dec 19
That Pacquiao is on some type of steroids or illegal substance. everyone should or least take tht for consideration. You guys sure did take tht for consideration against barry bonds tht he probably took steroids and he tested negative on numerous accasions on all of his drug test. I’m a boxing trainer and it is highly unlikely tht a small man would walk through a bigger man punches without getting startled or regroup themselves… the reason he could do tht is bc he couldn’t really feel nothing.
name Dec 20
all u guys are stupid,u act like you want to kiss pacman!!!u got a crush on him fellas? pacmans alway the smaller man u say?what a pound or two? him at the right weight for him and the other guy hasn’t ate for three days? lol
Pacs ok hgh prob..but either way mayweather will teach him how 2 box.
Real Talk Analyst Dec 20
Manny is juicing. He normally cycles off the juice prior to the scheduled drug test to avoid detection. These olympic style tests will insure that he can’t cycle on and off the juice during training camp. The result will be a unenhanced Manny being KO’d by Floyd. The only frauds here are Manny and his crew.

Every man has his own gift. Pacman has speed, strength, and never been ruttled in his boxing career.
Henfein Dec 24
The Mayweathers know boxing inside and out, so if they suspect Pacquaio is using substances that can’t be detected through urine testing. I think most of you idiots felt Bonds was cheating using HGH in baseball so why should Pacquaio be allowed to use it in boxing.
If Mayweather is fighting clean then so should Pacquaio. Let’s ask Cotto if Marquarito should have been allowed to cheat when he was beating Cotto’s brains out.
I know a lot of you don’t like that uppity black undefeated champion Mayweather beating every fighter put in front of him but get over your bias and get off Pacquaio’s jock strap. Peace Out
THE POLOARIS Dec 26
BOTH SON & THE FATHER (MAYWEATHER) ARE NOT PRETTY BUT BIG UGLY AND COWARD…. FLOYD STOP TALKING LIKE A PARROT IT IS VERY CLEAR CLARO THAT YOU AFRAID TO FIGHT PAQIUAO …SHAME ON YOU UGLY MOTHER FCKER…..
howl Dec 26
mayweather doesnt trust the nevada drug tests? what a big joke. he’s been subjected to that several times. what a lame excuse!
quengmel Dec 26
the mayweathers have always avoided the big names in boxing, they have made all sorts of excuses not to face great opponents in the ring, why should this fight with pacman be any different. if they really think manny was taking PED, why didn’t they raise the issue before agreeing for a fight? why just now?
and why has no one, before the mayweather fight, has demanded that manny be tested with PED at random????
see only the mayweathers have done this…i wonder why????
Rey Smith May 2
Just a question… Has Mayweather Jr. ask any other previous fights besides mosely to take a Olympic style drug test? Why is the boxing commision allowing this particular boxer change the policies in drug testing? How is he making and changing Boxing commision policies? The Golden Boy must of pulled alot of strings or maybe someone got paid big. How do we know just how clean Mayweather is? Who is in charge of the drug testing? Maybe Golden boy is in charge of that too.
