Papa John’s Kept Us Waiting… and Waiting December 18
If there is any group of people that a food delivery service should never try to mess around with, it is a roomful of hungry writers in the midst of a monthly brainstorming session waiting on lunch.
So here’s the deal: we meet up once a month to have lunch and discuss some important things. Since we usually have sandwiches on these monthly meetings, we had what we now regrettably thought then was a stroke of genius and decided to go for pizza instead. Someone somewhere had a stash of Papa John’s coupons, so we decided to give it a go.
In order to avoid hot heads resulting from empty stomachs, we pre-ordered our pizza luncheon feast at 10 in the morning, and asked that they be delivered at 12:15; that, we thought, was more than enough time for Papa John’s to complete our order. Time came and went, however, and at 12:30 we called in to look for our feast. Oh, the delivery guy’s just leaving the joint and will be there in fifteen is the gist of the reply that we got.
That “fifteen” came and went as well and there was still no sign of the delivery guy or the pizza, so we ended up having to call again. The person we talked to at Papa John’s said that they will call us right back to find out exactly when the delivery guy would come – but they did not. At any rate, the “feast” finally arrived – at 1 PM. So much for lunch.
But then again, maybe it was, indeed, a blessing in disguise. Pizza is not exactly ideal lunch food anyway – although it would have been okay to have a couple of slices once a month and eat healthy the rest of the time. Suffice it to say that there were a lot of pretty hot heads in the conference room that day – and grumbling tummies that were filled way too late. So is there another round of Papa John’s Pizza for lunch to be seen in the future? Geez, after this, probably not in a million years!
