Pacquiao Plans to Sue Mayweather Camp! December 26
News surfaced immediately before Christmas regarding issues related to when blood will be drawn for testing with regards to the Manny Pacquiao – Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight slated for March 13 of next year. Pacquiao was said to have refused to undergo Olympic-style drug testing on Tuesday – according to Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Pacquiao’s would-be opponent, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. was quick to the draw and immediately reacted with the following statement on a feature on ESPN.com: “I understand Pacquiao not liking having his blood taken because, frankly, I don’t know anyone who really does. But in a fight of this magnitude, I think it is our responsibility to subject ourselves to sportsmanship at the highest level. I have already agreed to the testing and it is a shame that he is not willing to do the same. It leaves me with great doubt as to the level of fairness I would be facing in the ring that night.”
Mayweather’s father, Mayweather Sr., previously accused Pacquiao of taking performance enhancing drugs, then eventually retracted his statements. The Mayweather camp is requesting for Olympic-style drug testing, which is considered more rigorous than the one performed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
As for the Pacquiao camp, they reportedly want a huge monetary penalty should Mayweather be overweight, something that the boxer has been penalized for during a fight with Juan Manuel Marquez.
At this time, Pacquiao has ultimately decided to pull out of the fight – and has announced intentions to sue the Mayweathers for defamation because of the camp’s relentless insinuation that he was on performance-enhancing drugs without the ability to present tangible evidence to support their claim.
“Enough is enough. These people, Mayweather Sr, Jr and Golden Boy Promotions think it is a joke and a right to accuse someone wrongly of using steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. I have tried to just brush it off as a mere pre-fight ploy but I think they have gone overboard,” Pacquiao was quoted in a feature on BBC News.
