The Web is abuzz with rather sad news – the death of Johnson & Johnson heiress Casey Johnson.

The year 2010 certainly starts of in a somber note for the Johnson family, who have already requested for “privacy during this very difficult time” through a statement released by the spokesman of Jets owner Woody Johnson.

Casey JohnsonJohnson was found dead in Los Angeles on Monday. This was confirmed through a statement released by the Los Angeles Police Department. Although no cause of death was given, several reports mention the socialite’s past battles with drug abuse.

Casey Johnson figured in the spotlight due to her current association with reality starlet Tila Tequila. The two apparently announced their engagement through Tequila’s Ustream account on December 9, dressed in their lingerie. She was also said to be involved in a custody battle with her mother, Sale Johnson, over her adopted daughter.

The troubled socialite has been cut off from her trust fund, according to some sources, after refusing to get help for her issues with drugs. She has apparently tried to enter rehab a few times, but to no avail. She has also had reported run-ins with the law, one of the more recent ones being arrested with charges for grand theft, allegedly involving more than $20,000 of items taken from the Hollywood home of model Jasmine Lennard.

Tequila herself confirmed the news of Johnson’s death by posting the following message on her Twitter account: “Everyone please pray 4 my Wifey Casey Johnson. She has passed away. Thank u for all ur love and support but I will be offline to be w family.” When news of Johnson’s death started circulating, Tequila had posted a couple of tweets that indicated that Johnson was not dead but just in a coma; eventually, though, the LAPD confirmed that Johnson had, indeed, passed away.
