Missouri Supporters Struggling to Get Medical Marijuana Legalized February 9
There are at this time 14 states that have made the use of marijuana for medical purposes legal – but Missouri is not one of them. There are, however, patients who reside in Missouri who believe that they could benefit from legalizing medical marijuana – and one of them is heading up efforts to lobby for the legalization of medical marijuana in her state, according to a feature on KY3.com.
Sherry Cooper of Mountain View, Missouri shares what her life is like at this time. She has been diagnosed fibromyalgia and has been living with the pain associated with the disease over the past two to three years. Her day is filled with pills – and more pills – from the time she wakes up. There are days when there is a need for her to down as much as 13 prescription painkillers and deal with their side effects.
Cooper shares: “They could cause you to have thoughts of suicide and all. Nausea — that medication is one of the most nauseating meds I’ve ever taken.”
Medical marijuana can change that. Cooper believes that using pot can significantly reduce pain symptoms within a short period of time – cutting pain by almost half of its original intensity in as short as half an hour. And these quick results do not have side effects to accompany them, she shares.
At this time, Cooper is trying to rally other supporters behind her cause, doing her searching online. According to the KY3 feature, a bill has already been introduced in the House but has not been assigned to a legislative committee.

Sherry is a courageous woman and we are proud to have her on our board of directors for Sensible Missouri. Cannabis therapy is the only relief that is effective for many of the chronically and terminally ill. Sensible Missouri seeks to “unionize” the cannabis therapy patients of Missouri into a bargaining body that will lobby for the rights of the patients. Tomorrow we go to Jefferson City to “put a face on the patients” referred to in HB1670 and thank those who stand with us. Your coverage is greatly appreciated!

I hope your state catches up to us soon, approving medical marijuana in California has been great. The world did not end, the children are no more corrupted than they already were, nobody has died. The dispensaries are peaceful, friendly places, and nobody hangs out in front of them, you buy your medicine and leave. I don’t see why people are so afraid of marijuana.

I find it truly sad that anyone would try to make it more difficult for someone to use marijuana for relief of pain, improvement of appetite, or any of the other valuable uses of marijuana. The tax money that is wasted on marijuana arrests, prosecution, prison, and forced “treatment” costs the U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars every year, billions that are therefore NOT available for schools, health care, fighting terrorism, repairing our roads and bridges, and a hundred other vitally important social needs. Surely no one believes that imprisoning Americans for using a plant is a better use of our limited resources than educating our children, maintaining our infrastructure, and keeping our families safe from foreign terrorists?
Let’s put the drug dealing criminals out of business and free up our tax dollars to meet America’s real needs. Let’s tax and regulate marijuana, and let’s let ordinary Americans grow a little marijuana in their own back yards, maybe $100 a year for a permit to grow a dozen plants.
