DMX Not Allowed to Join Celebrity Rehab

Dr. Drew Pinsky, addiction medicine specialist to the stars and producer and star of the VH1 show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, reportedly extended an invitation to hip-hop star DMX (whose real name is Earl Simmons) to be treated in his rehab clinic in California. This information was shared by TMZ.com on Saturday. Of course, since it will be Dr. Drew who will treat DMX, this rehab will undoubtedly happen as cameras are rolling.

DMXDMX was released from the Maricopa County Jail in May last year after having served 90 days out of an 18-month long sentence after being convicted of cruelty to animals, theft and drug charges. He reportedly went back to jail in March because he violated the terms of his probation through cocaine use, as indicated by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

With the invitation extended by Dr. Drew, DMX has requested that he be allowed to leave the state in order to take the offer. However, a judge in Arizona has rejected the star’s request, citing that he is already making progress in a court-mandated substance abuse program, which is scheduled to end in July. But then again, that program is not accessible to viewers, is it?

On top of the convictions that he is currently serving time for, DMX has also been previously convicted on charges of assault, attempted aggravated assault, possession of assault firearm, criminal possession of a weapon, attempted robbery and attempt to purchase cocaine.
