Famous Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast cancer is a disease that can affect anybody, and there are quite a few famous faces that have fought against the disease. Here are some of the more famous breast cancer survivors.

sheryl crowSheryl Crow. The 48-year old singer-songwriter was diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2006. She had undergone “minimally invasive” surgery and radiation therapy, and has since been declared cancer-free. She now regularly performs at benefits for breast cancer, and opened a digital screening and diagnostic imaging center – the Sheryl Crow Imaging Center – in August, 2010.

Melissa Etheridge. Melissa Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004. She is remembered for showing off her bald head – a side effect of chemotherapy – during the 2005 Grammy Awards.

Maura Tierney. One of the stars of the show E.R., Tierney was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2009. She has one advice for women: do not be afraid to go to the doctor. She is now in remission and is set to appear in a new drama, “The Whole Truth.”

Christina Applegate. The Emmy Award-winning actress was diagnosed with cancer in 2008, at the age of 36. She underwent a double mastectomy and has been declared cancer-free. She has launched a foundation dedicated to breast cancer, called Right Action for Women.

Cynthia Nixon. Nixon, one of the stars of HBO’s Sex and the City, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006. She had a lumpectomy and underwent six and a half weeks of radiation, and is now free from the disease. Nixon has served as an ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
