Reasons That Make Celebrities More Vulnerable to Drug Addition
We look up to them. We adore them. We envy their lifestyle. But behind their celebrity status lies a few dark secrets, such as drug addiction. Thanks to the paparazzi and celebrity reporters, we have seen just enough cases of celebrity alcohol and drug addiction. And despite the fame and fortune that Hollywood celebrities enjoy, we can’t help but ask what could have gone wrong?
Excessive publicity. Sadly, fame comes with a lot of publicity and invasion of privacy issues. Everything that celebrities like Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, or Paris Hilton do is worth the headline. From breaking up with their beau to being a fashion victim, you can expect they’d almost automatically land on tabloids and online news. How many times have we heard celebrities blame their drug addition to their lack of privacy? Unfortunately, for many celebrities, a slew of publicity is just too much to handle.
Identity crisis. There have been quite a number of celebrities reported to have been addicted to prescription drugs because they struggle with the lost sense of self. While celebrities like Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston are just human beings like most of us, some fans just fail to see them that way. The pressure of having to live up to their fans’ expectations can result to chronic stress and because they have the means to buy anything they want, access to drugs has become equally easier.
Battling the “It’s Lonely Up There” syndrome. When we look at Hollywood celebrities, it’s easy for us to say they’ve got everything – fame, fortune, family, friends, and every luxurious thing you can imagine. But what most of us probably do not realize is that these celebrities think otherwise. Many of them feel lonely and isolated despite their big homes and fancy cars. When the cheers have all gone and they start feeling as if they have nothing more to achieve, drugs and alcohol become their closest ally.
