There is but a little over a week left in the countdown to the release of the film that will conclude the Harry Potter series – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 – which is set to show in theaters July 15. Unsurprisingly, there is Harry Potter fever in the air, and the film series’ stars are being interviewed left and right – both about their experience of growing up with The Boy Who Lived, as well as about their personal lives.
In an interview with GQ magazine, Daniel Radcliffe, who bested thousands of hopefuls to land the role of the bespectacled boy wizard himself, admitted to having gone through a drinking problem, as shared in a feature on the Los Angeles Times. It was a revelation that, to say the least, may be shocking, as it is a total deviation from the image that his young fans may have of him.
Radcliffe shared that was into drinking while filming Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, which was released in 2009. He said: “I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff… I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff.” His drink of choice, it was revealed, was whiskey, a far cry from the butter beer that Harry Potter and his posse favored at the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade. He shared, though, that he has not had any alcohol since August 2010.
“As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time — that doesn’t work for me. I do that very unsuccessfully,” Radcliffe shared.
