New York Mayor Bloomberg Calls Medical Marijuana ‘A Hoax’

To show his stand on the legalization of marijuana in several states across the US, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg has one thing to say: medical marijuana is a hoax.

As reported on CBS New York, Bloomberg said in a recent appearance on WOR radio that the so-called ‘wonder drug’ is not a real cure. “Medical, my … come on. There’s no medical … This is one of the great hoaxes of all time.”

New York is one of the biggest states in the US pushing for medical marijuana legalization. Several groups have supported the implementation of cannabis legalization in the state, particularly doctors and a number of pro-marijuana senators.

The state seems to be working its way toward legalization already. The New York State Assembly recently approved a bill stating that pot possession in small doses will be punished through a fine instead of an arrest. About 600 doctors declared their support during a news conference for a medical marijuana program in the state.

Bloomberg expressed his fear over marijuana use these days. He claims that he was informed of the increased strength of the active ingredient in marijuana (THC) as compared in the past, but states further that he hasn’t personally tried using pot.

He is also adamant about the potential impact of pot legalization on society’s viewpoint of regulated substances. “If (drug dealers) can’t sell marijuana, they’ll sell something else, and the something else is going to be worse, and the push to legalize this is just wrong-headed.”

I think it quite comical that a person that has never tried cannabis is calling the medical movement a hoax. Is it just coincidence that CBD inhibits proliferation of cancer cells and that the Hebrew word for "fragrant cane" in holy anointing oil is translated as cannabis?
